I think that must be a rite of passage from youth to young adulthood, the day our parents explain the price of gas. Because I remember that, too. Suddenly having not only knowledge but wisdom, the ability to add something to the conversation if I knew of a place where we could fill up for two cents less a gallon. Or how it made sense that we would coast past a station if the price wasn’t right.

I adore this entry. It brought back the memory of the day my father explained gas prices to me after I started crying at the gas station because I thought he had to pay $77–not $0.77 per litre–so that we could go fishing.

It’s a bit like moving into a whole house after living in one room and out of a suitcase. Sometimes I’ll go to the other pages and just kind of stare at them the same way you’d stand in an empty room trying to figure out what furniture would look good.

i just got here by googling the hart house review. i was at the launch on wednesday and i remember seeing this. it’s great to see it written up.

and as an aside, this whole project is awesome. i’ll take notes sometimes of what i see people reading on the subway, but with nothing like your dedication. and i’ll tell myself to look up what they’re reading, to see if they’re worth reading, but i never do.
